Following the Liveblog: WWDC 2009 Keynote

If it weren’t for Mom I would’ve kept building and rebuilding my mansion in The Sims 3 and not realised it’s almost 6pm. And then missed the Apple keynote.

This time I’m following Gizmodo’s coverage.

  • New 15–inch MacBook Pro‽ As in new design
  • Oh right, new battery. Yea, that’s something I do want.
  • SD slot eh? So ExpressCard 3G modems won’t work. Built–in 3G?
  • They swapped round the position of the DisplayPort and USB ports. That’s the first time I’ve seen a MacBook not have their ports arranged by size down the side.
  • Damn, 8GB of RAM. I feel hurt. Why did I have to get the original unibody MacBook Pro…
  • I want there to be a 15–inch MacBook Air with built–in 3G.
  • Mmm… Snow Leopard… Now we’re talking.
  • Can we move pass making fun of Windows Vista and 7 please?
  • More space: nice.
  • Chinese handwriting recognition: not much use personally since I rarely write in Chinese, but I know it’ll be a great selling point in China and The Chinese Takeaway.
  • “Crash resistance” as in it crashes less, or Chrome–like crash resistance?
  • Loving the QuickTime X icon.
  • Still not getting what Exposé–in–the–Dock means. Need to see this in motion.
  • I don’t get why they think Top Sites is a big deal. I left it on for two months after the Safari 4 beta came out, and then disabled it. Never was much use for me.
  • Cover Flow in Safari is cool, because I can remember what a page roughly looks like and identify by sight when I can’t remember the URL.
  • Editing built into QuickTime X: I guess the Pro version of QuickTime is dead.
  • Sounds like they’re just elaborating on the stuff they’ve listed on the Snow Leopard page last year. Is there really nothing new to show?
  • Exchange support: me like. I no longer need to use that horrible web UI for university email.
  • “Available on Intel Macs ‘past and present’”? PowerPC’s dead?
  • Yes! $29 for Snow Leopard! How much is it going to be in the UK? £20? I’m guessing £20.
  • iPhone 3.0 stuff: just covering old ground so far. Boring.
  • Woohoo! O2 will support tethering when 3.0 is released. Please don’t let it be an extra.
  • Do they not double–check their slides before the keynote? The slide says “Auto–fill”, but both the iPhone screenshot and Safari on the Mac says “AutoFill”.
  • Using 30 Rock when introducing Find My iPhone: chuckle…
  • Ergh… More demoes from 3rd party developers…
  • I hope they’re demoing all these apps now because iPhone OS 3.0 will be released today.
  • June 17th: dammit.
  • Yup, 3GS.
  • So far, everything as expected. Except for the glossy back.
  • Ooh… Macro…
  • I hope Voice Control works with the headset.
  • Liking the longer battery life.
  • Yes! iPhone 3G S on June 19! I can get it before I fly to The Chinese Takeaway, where they won’t get it until July! Suck it hellhole.
  • Well that was an unnecessarily long keynote.
