Better Quotes

I’ve been using “, ”, ⌥+[ and ⌥+⇧+[ even since I learnt about it a few years ago, so it’s become second nature to me. Tumblr and Markdown and smart quotes in Pages do take care of it automatically, but I still type it in full out of habit.

What I don’t agree with though, is using ’ or ’ as an apostrophe. I personally stick with ' because I feel that the name implies that this is the correct character for apostrophe. How it gets rendered should be left to the browser.

Unfortunately though, Markdown — I emailed Tumblr Support and they told me it’s a limitation of Markdown — can’t seem to do '. Even if I use the entity code, the HTML output will still be ’, which is annoying me a lot.

Change the software, not the entity code.
