Really stretching the definition of a violin here IMHO. At some point, a violin becomes a viola, a viola becomes a cello, and a cello becomes a double bass. (I’m sure there are actually more nuances than that.) This, to me, is more just a large — violin‑like — string instrument. If it could play the same notes as a normal violin, then I’ll call it a violin.
