Following the Liveblog: “Come See Our Latest Creation”

I made dinner early so I don’t get hungry during the keynote.

I’ll be following Engadget’s.

  • They started on time? That’s rare.
  • Did Engadget mean to type “a user”, or “our users”? I’m going to “our”.
  • There we go: Moses holding up the Ten Commandments.
  • “Key tasks” being freeform scribbling and sketching? Please say yes.
  • Well, “iPad” is better than “iSlate” and “Canvas”.
  • They’re not holding back are they? When’s the last time we’re minutes into a keynote and already we see the new hardware?
  • Yes! No Flash!
  • I’m liking the new silver UI theme.
  • Wishing the bezel’s thinner. Titanium–PowerBook–G4–thin.
  • C’mon, we know the iPhone. Show us new stuff. Show me handwriting recognition.
  • Yes we get the idea. Clap clap. Move on.
  • Did they apply Photoshop’s Bezel and Contour filter to iTunes’ buttons‽ Maybe it’s just Engadget’s photos.
  • The YouTube app resembles the site.
  • Homegrown Apple PA Semi–at–work chip.
  • A month on standby‽
  • Tap Tap on this should be interesting.
  • Does “pixel double” imply that the screen’s 960 × 640?
  • Gameloft again? Something new dammit! Handwriting! Sketching! Scribbling!
  • So they’re doing a demo with Brushes. But are you still confined to using fingers only?
  • EA again…
  • The “iBook” name is back! Yay! Too bad it’s not for the hardware.
  • iBooks’ shelf looks horribly like Classics’.
  • McGraw–Hill’s not on the list of publishers. I wonder why.
  • Maybe they just recruited Kaz and Ryu to help with iBooks.
  • EPUB. Is that DRM–free though?
  • Yes you can open and edit iWork documents. But can you fucking scribble on it‽
  • $30 translates to roughly £20, which is reasonable I think. But can I get an educational discount?
  • Whoa. Basic data’s not unlimited‽ Hope that’s not the case in the UK.
  • Unlocked! But what’s “micro SIM”? Are you basically forced to either get a new contract in order to get one of these things or beg your provider to give you one?
  • Can we do voice chat over 3G now?
  • $829, so roughly £550–£600 when it’s in retail?
  • Three months. Okay.
  • Keyboard dock? It’s becoming a laptop.
  • So no handwriting or sketching then.

Over. As far as I can tell, iPad’s still on iPhone OS 3–level. Maybe they’ll have something more exciting to showoff closer to launch. I guess we can look forward to seeing the A4 chip in the next iPhone.

That bezel is really bugging me.
